The Honors program hosted its first event for the Spring Semester.  This was a pre-planned event by Darrek Harshberger and other SHAB members. It was held in Natali Student Center on January 31st, 2023 from 4-5 p.m.

This event was planned out last semester during the Honors course taught by Dr. Laura Tuennerman, professor of History at PennWest California. This event was to help clubs and organizations learn how to organize their material, and to inform students how to archive their personal materials at home or in their offices. It also helped students look into how to preserve material from the Honors Program because the Honors Program is going to merge with the other PennWest campuses in the near future.

One of the six students who attended this event, Courtney Kiesling, said she had learned a great deal. Specifically, she learned the whole aspect of what archivists do with the material they receive, and how to store materials at home in order to keep them longer.

“Many of us do some archiving with our material without even realizing it,” Kiesling said.

She would definitely recommend similar events like this to other fellow students.

“Even though this was the first event held for the spring semester of 2023 I hope that SHAB will plan other future events like this,” Kiesling added.
