The top of three 7-foot bronze sculptures silhouetted against the sky during sunrise at California University of Pennsylvania on Sunday, April 5, 2020.
The sculpture, outside the Natali Student Center, commemorates the Cal U women’s softball team’s NCAA Division II National Championship of 1997 and 1998.
Unveiled to the public at a dedication ceremony in the fall of 2001, the sculpture was created by artist Allan Cottrill of Washington, Pa. and depicts three softball players hoisting a championship trophy.
