The whole sports community lost on September 25 when two prominent members passed away. First, José Fernández, a young pitcher for the Miami Marlins, passed away in a boating accident on September 25 and then Arnold Palmer, the legendary golfer, passed away.

While Palmer’s death was due to natural old age, Fernández’ death was much different, as the young athlete got in an argument with his pregnant girlfriend and then decided to take his boat out late at night. The next morning, it was announced that Fernández had passed. The Marlins cancelled their game and the next day, they played with all players wearing the number 16 and Fernández’ last name on their jerseys.

When it comes to death, it makes you stop and think, and the two deaths on September 25 certainly did that. Both proved that life is a valuable, and treasured gift. While Palmer lived and experienced a lot in life, Fernández’ life was cut short, and now he will never meet his unborn child.

The whole sports world, not just the baseball and golf worlds, halted at the news of the two deaths. Memorials were planned and people around the world mourned the two lost athletes. While one was a legend, the other was on his way to doing so.

Palmer golfed with pride and love for the game the same way that Fernández pitched against opposing MLB batters. During one game, when Fernández was at bat, he hit a nearly impossible throw, and the opposing pitcher asked if he really hit that. Fernández smiled and nodded that he indeed hit the ball.

Both athletes shared their gift with fans everywhere. Now, the world mourns the loss of them both. The deaths of both athletes have left a black hole in the sports world.

However, both athletes will never be forgotten.
