“A Minecraft Movie” includes shining performances as a brother and sister (Sebastien Eugene Hansen and Emma Meyers), their animal-loving realtor (Danielle Brooks), and an out-of-prime professional video game player (Jason Momoa) are guided on an adventure through dimensions by a man named Steve (Jack Black). As they travel from the real world to the overworld and eventually the Nether, they encounter battles with skeletons wielding bows with flaming arrows, explosive creepers, and a pig-like witch accompanied by her followers.
As always, Jack Black stuns comedically in this movie. His impeccable line delivery, execution of fight scenes, and performance in the song “Steve’s Lava Chicken” resulted in eruptions of applause in theatres across the country. The actor additionally performed well with co-star Jason Momoa, delivering both heartfelt and humorous scenes together throughout the film.
The film pays tribute to the Youtubers who contributed to the popularity of the game. One scene includes cameos from DanTDM, LDShadowLady, and Aphmau. Viewers can also notice a pig wearing a crown as an homage to a popular Minecraft Youtuber and streamer who passed away in 2022.
While it may not be entirely accurate to the original game, “A Minecraft Movie” gives an entertaining tribute to the fan-beloved Minecraft. According to Variety, this film is already the second-biggest movie of 2025, earning $313 billion.
