On Thursday, March 20, PennWest California’s Rainbow Alliance partnered with the Auto(nomous) Body Shop Student Vanbassadors to host a safe sex kit event at the Natali Student Center. Students were provided with free pregnancy tests, prophylactics, information pamphlets, stickers, and other essentials to make personalized kits to keep for themselves or to distribute to friends and those in need. Cookies and other sweet treats were provided by PennWest California Dining Services. Rainbow Alliance dedicated the event to celebrating Bi+ Health Awareness Month.
The Auto(nomous) Body Shop is a Pittsburgh-based mutual aid program that focuses on providing community care and accessible resources through sexual health and wellness supplies. Student volunteers from universities in the greater Pittsburgh area visit various campuses across the region to raise awareness for issues regarding sexual health and safe sex practices. Whether someone needs emergency contraception or information about local or regional healthcare clinics, the Auto(nomous) Body Shop has it covered.
March is considered Bi+ Health Awareness Month, a month dedicated to improving the overall health of individuals who identify as bisexual or another identity on the bi+ spectrum. The theme for this year is navigating bi+ health in an uncertain world, which is reflected in recent legislation making healthcare access for those in the LGBTQ+ community increasingly difficult.
