On Tuesday, March 20, it was announced that Women’s Flag Football will be added to Vulcan sports, with its first year being in the 2025-26 academic year. The program is already looking for players, and a nationwide search for a coach is underway. The team will play at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
This addition of Women’s Flag Football corresponds with the national growth that the sport has received recently. Dozens of NCAA schools are sponsoring Women’s Flag Football and the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics are discussing making it an NCAA Emerging Sport for Women. Flag Football is also being added to the 2028 Olympics.
“We are excited about expanding our sport offering with women’s flag football,” said Dr. Karen Hjerpe, California Athletic Director. “There has been so much growth in the sport in a short period of time, and the addition of the program to our athletic complement of sports will bring additional opportunities to females looking to continue their high school playing careers at the collegiate level.”
