Have you ever been walking around campus and wondered what history surrounded you? This is a question that I think about often when walking to class, so I decided to start a segment on Campus history with all my information coming from the university library’s archives collection. For this week I will be talking about Gallager Hall, and how extremely important it was for students.
Now you may be asking, where is Gallagher Hall at and why was it so important to students. Now Gallagher Hall is the main building for music and has an indoor golf facility. Having things like choir, band and some classes inside, but before all that Gallagher was the dining hall for students before Natali was built. This hall is located near Residence Hall E and is extremely close to where the Convocation center is. Gallagher Hall was named after Charles A. Gallagher, a trustee of the university when it was California State Teacher college and was built in 1967. Now there is even some history left of the previous dining area on the left side near the entrance doors.
This sparked my interest in learning about this building. They use to post weekly menus in CalTimes for students to see what was to eat for the week. There are some fun facts on Gallagher Hall that you can tell your friends while walking to class.
