The 67th Annual Grammy Awards will air this Sunday, Feb. 2, and this year’s show promises to have the biggest stars on stage. Icons like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, and Coldplay will all attend, with Trevor Noah returning as host. This year was all about the pop girl stardom that has surged with artists rising to new peaks like Chappell Roan, Charlie xcx, and Sabrina Carpenter, who are all listed to perform this Sunday. With such a big year for many artists, some contention exists about who will take home the awards. Here, I will predict what artist will come home with the biggest prizes at this year’s Grammys.
Record Of The Year Nominees:
“Now and Then” – The Beatles
“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” – Beyoncé
“Espresso” – Sabrina Carpenter
“360” – Charli xcx
Predict to Win: “Birds of a Feather” – Billie Eilish
“Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar
“Good Luck, Babe!” – Chappell Roan
“Fortnight” – Taylor Swift Featuring Post Malone
Billie Eilish is undoubtedly one of the most prominent artists of this generation, and the academy always thinks so as well, being one of the most recently awarded stars. While many, like me, are confused about the difference between “Record and Song Of The Year”, the main distinction is that “Record Of The Year” is given for the best performance and production of a song. In contrast, “Song Of the Year” recognizes the writing of a song. “Birds of a Feather” should win because it is rare for a hit radio song to have a catchy, unique production that helps aid Billie’s already outstanding voice. It was one of the biggest songs this year and one of the best produced. While there are other worthy nominees, Billie is, as of late, the Grammy Queen with her already nine wins in such a short career, and it seems complicated for the academy not to pick her.
Album of the Year Nominees:
André 3000 – “New Blue Sun”
Predict to Win: Beyoncé – “Cowboy Carter”
Sabrina Carpenter – “Short n’ Sweet”
Charli XCX – “Brat”
Jacob Collier – “Djesse Vol. 4”
Billie Eilish – “Hit Me Hard and Soft”
Chappell Roan – “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”
Taylor Swift – “The Tortured Poets Department”
This may be wishful thinking for this prediction, but Beyoncé is due for her first major Grammy win. She has the most Grammys ever, yet she has yet to win any of the “Big Four” awards like Album of The Year which she has desperately tried to win throughout her career, with many believing she has been snubbed from the award numerous times. I think this year will be different, though, with the academy seeming to maybe give the award to her for the recognition she deserves for her career. “Cowboy Carter” was not the most significant album this year, but it was massively critically acclaimed, with many critics believing her album to be the best of the year. It just seems if not now for Beyoncé, then when?
Song of the Year Nominees:
Shaboozey – “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”
Billie Eilish – “Birds of a Feather”
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars – “Die With a Smile”
Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone – “Fortnight”
Predict to Win: Chappell Roan – “Good Luck, Babe!”
Kendrick Lamar – “Not Like Us”
Sabrina Carpenter – “Please Please Please”
Beyoncé – “Texas Hold ‘Em”
Chappell Roan’s quick rise to stardom hasn’t been seen before in quite some time; becoming one of the biggest stars in the music world is no small feat. With massive popularity from critics and fans alike, she would win for her popular song “Good Luck, Babe!” The song has one of the best storytelling and lyricisms from such a young artist, which is too impressive to ignore—her bridge in the song levels other artists in the nominee listing. The song was also massive all summer, staying in the top charts for a long time, so it seems obvious. I would not be upset if “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar wins the best song, but the Grammys has been notorious for not awarding rap artists “Song of the Year” historically, and I just don’t see the academy changing this year.
Best New Artist Nominees:
Benson Boone
Sabrina Carpenter
Doechii
Khruangbin
RAYE
Predict to Win: Chappell Roan
Shaboozey
Teddy Swims
You could have probably guessed my prediction for Best New Artist would be Chappel Roan. Her rise from just one debut album is nothing short of extraordinary. Since her popularity levels outweigh most of these nominees, she deserves an award. Sabrina Carpenter will probably win the “Best New Artist” award, but the other nominees could feel wronged because she has been around since 2016. Doechii is another artist who has emerged and grown in popularity, but it seems like her peak was too late for the academy to change its course.
My predictions will be put to the test on Feb 2 at 8 p.m. on CBS and Paramount Plus for music’s biggest night.
