With snow and freezing temperatures expected this week, Penn West’s Safety and Risk Management Office reminds students, faculty, and staff of the procedures for delays, class cancellations, and closures.
The temperature in California, PA is currently in the negatives with snow and cloudy skies. The National Weather Service reports that, as the week progresses, temperatures will drop further, with lows reaching well below freezing. As temperatures stay below freezing, the roads may become hazardous due to snow accumulation and the potential for black ice. PennWest’s Safety and Risk Management Office urges the campus community to exercise caution when traveling, especially early in the morning or late at night, when road conditions can quickly become slick.
Due to the unpredictable nature of winter weather, Penn West University may experience delays, cancellations, or campus closures in the coming days. Campus personnel will monitor local and regional conditions to determine any changes to the university’s operating schedule. Decisions on delays or closures will be made as early as possible, typically no later than 6 a.m.
Updates will be shared through the Penn West Shield emergency notification system. Students, faculty, and staff can enroll and sign up for PennWest Shield. These updates will also be communicated to local news outlets.
Penn West’s Safety and Risk Management Office recommends that everyone exercise caution when driving or walking, and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the entire community during winter weather events.
