This Wednesday, Dec. 4, all Compass 1000: Navigating the First Year at PennWest courses for this semester came together to host a celebration of learning. This event, which took place in rooms 207 and 206 of Natali and the Airport Lounge from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., allowed students to showcase their final group projects.
Students in the first-year seminar were assigned a group project based on each of their class themes. For this project, each group created a research question relating to their class theme and produced a tri-fold poster displaying their research findings. Each presentation included definitions, photos, conclusions, and an explanation of each member’s interest in the research question.
PennWest California faculty and staff attended this event to ask questions and review each project to determine credit. Students were judged based on their research, synthesis of information, conclusions, and presentation design.
This event exhibited the purpose of this course, which is to encourage new student engagement, critical thinking, and a sense of community.
