Sunday, March 25, the Vulcan’s softball team won both games against Pitt-Johnstown. The first game ended 7-0, and the second 5-3. In the first game, Caleigh Rister had a complete game shutout, while allowing 8 hits in 28 batters faced, 1 base on balls, and racking up 7 strikeouts. California went 13-30 in at bats, about 43%, compared to the Mountain Cats’ 8-28 (28.57%) for the game. The Vulcans racked up a string of hits in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings. In the 4th inning, Alyssa Rose hit a 3 run home run, her first of the season. In the 7 run game, RBIs came from the bats of Rose(3), Rister(1), Fiorilli(1), Achtermeier(1), and Sersevic(1). Pitt-Johnstown’s Tori Radvan went 3 for 3, and Isabella DePalma went 2 for 3. Rister now has a record 2-4, as well as Mia Smith who also pitched the whole game for the Mountain Cats.
The Second game was somewhat of a different story, as the final score was 5-3. The Vulcans scored in the 2nd and 5th innings, and Pitt-Johnstown scored in the 6th and 7th innings. Alyssa Rose started the game, but the scoring surge by the Mountain Cats forced a pitching change to Rister, who secured the save when subbed in the 7th inning. Kayla Miehl for Pitt-Johnstown hit a two-run home run in the 6th and Shaylin Hagerman hit a sac ground ball. Fiorilli, Achtermeier, Sersevic, and Linkous all had RBIs to secure the win for the Vulcans. California is currently on top of PSAC west as they are undefeated in conference play as of the end of the game, having a record 4-0, and 6-6.
