On Mar. 4, 2024, the California Vulcans took on the Seton Hill Griffins and were able to come out on top in a close game 70-65. The Vulcans were off to the start that they had hoped for the playoffs.
California started the game in top form and kept the Griffins, the number 1 offense in the PSAC, quiet on the offensive end. The Vulcan’s leading contributors were Dejah Terrell, 18 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks. Alicia Young, 12 points, 3 rebounds. Sierra Bermudez, 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists.
The leading contributors for the Griffins were Christiane Frye, 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Helene Cowan with 15 points, and 3 steals. Hallie Cowan had 13 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.
As mentioned before, the Vulcans had a sizeable lead going into the second half. As the game continued, the Griffins chipped away at that lead. “It was definitely a tale of two halves, it seemed like everything was clicking in the first half”. The Vulcans went into the half being up by 22. “I don’t think we worked through that, they hurt us the whole second half, good thing we were up by as much as we were.”
With 20 seconds left to go in the 4th quarter, California was up 67-65, Seton Hill had their inbound pass stolen by Freshman Kimayah Williams, a play that sealed the win for the Vulcans.
The Vulcans go on to face the IUP Crimson Hawks, once again on Wednesday Mar. 6, as they advance to the quarterfinals.
