Students at PennWest California gathered in the Natali Performance Center on Tuesday, September 26 for an hour-long country/rock concert, all put together by the Student Activities Board (SAB).
Cooper Greer, a certifiable country boy, originally from Missouri, but raised in North Carolina, would take center stage along with his three other band members. The entire squad, known simply as “The Cooper Greer Band” had an obvious comradery during the entire performance, consistently bouncing off one another in an energetic display.
The tight-knit crowd of about 50 students stood with heads nodding in approval of the loud guitars as rainbow lights slowly enveloped the whole room.
“I never thought I’d be in California, Pennsylvania”, said Greer at one point early in the performance, “but thank you all so much for coming.”
Greer and the band had the energy of an outdoor festival throughout the performance, commanding the stage as they belted out both original songs as well as covers of popular rock and country hits.
Greer’s electric stage presence gained him some well-deserved praise from the audience, with multiple people seen dancing and singing along during songs that they recognized.
Greer, after a self-admitted two hours of sleep the night before, was able to rock the room and keep his voice in top shape. Also rocking the room was drummer Reagan Hall, who stole the show multiple times with his confident and aggressive style of drumming. The two guitar players, Wes Kyatt and Greg Franklin, also received their good graces from the crowd with their solos.
The concert ended around 9pm, and as the students filtered out of the Performance Center, it was clear that Greer and company had lifted the mood. Laughing and dancing in some cases, students certainly found their way home happy.
